Studies have show that periodontal or gum disease can lead to much more serious problems such as heart disease. That’s why Greentree Dental takes preventative measures to help you avoid the disease and provides effective treatment options if it is diagnosed.
Gum disease occurs when bacteria or plaque builds up on and between teeth. The gums become irritated and inflamed and can separate from the teeth and form spaces called pockets where bacteria can continue to promote irritation. This early stage of periodontal disease is called gingivitis, which is often identified by gums that are red and swollen and may bleed easily. If left untreated, bone and other tooth-supporting tissues could be destroyed.
Although our goal is to prevent gum disease, should it develop, we treat it swiftly and effectively with medicated gels and prescription mouth rinses to stop its progress and prevent further damage.
